Repurpose, Restore, Revitalize
Many brands we carry share our commitment to conservation. They are chosen because they support environmental efforts that we believe in, which help leave this planet a little better off.
Toad & CO uses organic cotton, hemp, tencel, recycled and sustainable stretch polyester, recycled cotton, recycled wool, and lenzing modal (cellulosic fiber from renewable beech trees) Bluesign® Certified Fabrics. The bluesign® system takes into account the use of energy, water, chemistry, emissions and worker safety during fabric production. Specifically, the bluesign® system monitors efficient use of resources during the “Dyeing and Finishing Process” of fabric production. The dyeing and finishing stage alone uses many resources: 85% of water, 80% of energy, and 65% of chemicals that are used to produce a single garment are used during this process. The bluesign® system audits this process to ensure that these resource are being used in the most efficient way. They rely on a 5 principle system to determine whether a fabric is up to sustainability standards. As of Spring 2019, we have 49 styles made from blueisgn®-approved fabrics – 1/3 of the spring line!
Patagonia donates 1% of all sales to preservation and restoration of natural environments and recycles garments beyond repair in their Worn Wear program. Patagonia uses sustainable materials in their clothing; Hemp, organic cotton, recycled nylon, 100% recycled down, recycled polyester, refibra lyocell (80% wood and 20% recycled cotton scraps), recycled wool, tencel, yulex (natural rubber made from neoprene and a plant-based polymer) and reclaimed cotton. They use solar panels and natural light, filters out trash from storm water runoff, and pays employees to not drive their cars to work. Their mission states: “We’re in business to save our home planet”. Patagonia Provisions: We aim to make the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, and perhaps most important, inspire solutions to the environmental crisis. Patagonia donates to grassroots organizations and sells organic food products, reusable food containers, food wraps and utensils made from reclaimed wood and bamboo. Save The BeesWorks to save the bees by growing grains that attract these pollinators and supports petitions against bee-killing pesticides.
Tentree plants 10 trees for every purchase. When you make a purchase with tentree, you can register a “tree code” that's included with your purchase and choose to plant your 10 trees in Madagascar, Nepel, Haiti, Cambodia, Senegal, Canada, or in the United States. You can use your code to track the growth of your trees. As of now there have been 7,010 trees planted in the United States, 26,610 in Canada, 5,000 in Indonesia, 8,640 in Cambodia, 1,300,000 in Nepal, 780,000 in Haiti, 3,040,000 in Senegal, and 15,056,810 in Madagascar. They use sustainable materials to produce clothing; coconut buttons, hemp, organic cotton, recycled polyester, Tencel, linen and cork trims.
Oboz plants a tree for every pair of Oboz Footwear sold and gives out trees at retailer events for trying on a pair of Oboz shoes. Oboz has planted 2,134,527 trees so far. By planting specific types of fast-growing trees in a systematic manner, they provide families with a sustainable food source, livestock feed, products to sell, fuel wood and a 400% increase in their annual income. Oboz hosts community events to plant trees in local areas of need. Oboz “donates unsellable (but still trail-worthy) shoes, partnering with project sole and local non-profits to find feet in need.” Carbon OffsetOboz uses carbon offsets with shipments, employee travel, commuting and office utility bill with Bonneville Environment Foundation. Their headquarters is powered by clean wind energy. 100% of their office juice comes from wind farms in Central Idaho and Washington through the EPA Green Power Partnership.
Clif Bar Family Foundation partners with grassroots foundations that are “working tirelessly to conserve wild places and open spaces, advocate for pedestrian and bike friendly communities, and expand urban forests and restore watersheds. These nonprofits often are on the front lines, striving to safeguard public health and the environment by expanding organic farming acreage, improving local and global food security, investigating the impact of environmental toxins and tackling the root causes of climate change.” Organic Everything is 74% organic.
1% of SAOLA shoe purchase goes to wildlife conservation efforts. Named after one of the rarest animals on the planet, also known as the "Asian unicorn," SAOLA is dedicated to supporting wildlife conservation efforts with every shoe purchase. After watching animals perish due to severe droughts and other environmental changes, Patrick Kilonzo founded the MWALUA WILDLIFE TRUST. The trust has helped many animals in the area, including elephants, buffalo, zebras, impala, and more by working with communities to raise awareness about conservation, to promote ecological restoration, and to increase ethical economic opportunities to protect Kenya's nature and biodiversity. Vegan friendly shoes with upper portion of the shoe is made from 100% recycled PET from plastic bottles. The insoles and outsoles are made from algae foam and laces are made from organic cotton.
Fishpond is a Certified B Corporation. Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. Partners Fishpond partners with Trout Unlimited and Protect Our Winters. Together, they've collaborated with the Western Rivers Conservancy to purchase large amounts of land around lakes and rivers to permanently conserve wildlife and habitat and create public access for boaters, anglers, hikers and hunters. The lands are given to State Park Systems and US Forest Services. Sustainable Materials provides a line of products made from Cyclepond fabric, which is made out of repurposed fishing nets pulled from the ocean.
ENO plants trees for every hammock sold and they plant 2 trees in a place of need. They are a member of 1% for the Planet and donate 1% of their annual sales to support nonprofit organizations “focused on helping leave the environment in an even better place for future generations."
